Pornography

I would like to continue the discussion of pornography from class
today. It is my belief that consensual of-age pornography is okay. In
the age of camera phones, internet, and skype; recording/taking pictures
is a way for many couples to interact in long distance relationships.
Should this also be considering damaging pornography? I dont enjoy
watching porn because i feel creepy watching other people doing
something I consider so personal. However I think if two equal people
want to record their love, and share it with others that is alright, it
is sexually liberating. Before the internet porn was more expensive to
produce/distribute so it probably had to appeal to a larger audience to
be profitable, and because of this the idealized female figure was used
so that more men would buy it. However, with free porn on the internet,
many more people who want to can record and share their sexual
experiences. I'm not saying that the porn industry is 100% a good thing
by any means because there is still lots of bad things that happen. But
i think that if two sexual partners want to record and share their love
it is alright, they might have advice/new techniques that sexually board
couples could learn from. Most pornography is targeted towards men, so
is more objectifying of women but I think if sex was less taboo more
women would watch porn too. Consensual sex is beautiful, and should be
celebrated!!

  1. I don't think porn is usually produced to celebrate love or to record two people having sex because they love each other. It's usually a business transaction involving two partners who have no emotional intimacy, but engage in sexual activity for monetary compensation.

  2. I also don't think porn is used to celebrate love; it is definitely a profit-motivated industry. However, I think you are right that porn is not the problem. With the internet, there is a lot of porn out there that targets lots of different types of people. I'm sure a portion of it subjugates men. I am not a fan of pornography, but I do not think it is the reason why women are a disadvantaged group in society. Our society is much more progressive toward women, and hopefully this process will continue until one day we're considered equals in all aspects. There are preconceived notions and prejudices toward women as there are about any oppressed social group; they are not a direct result of pornography. Pornography may contribute some what to the prejudice, but I feel it's just an aspect that is ingrained in our social structure. We are constantly breaking down societal limits, as we have seen with slavery, women's right to vote, and now with marriage.

  3. That is one type of porn but the other could be constituted as by what was described by the blogger. Why is it wrong to even be payed to engage in sexual activity with no emotional intimacy? If fact it could be argued that it is safer. Rape is less likely to occur in a professional setting versus an intimate one.
