The eleventh chapter was so radical compared to the previous ones we've read. Obviously it was a major turning point for Andrea. But what got to me the most was the string of common excuses for rapists' behavior. It's on page 329, and it's just crazy to think about. I think of common excuses to be more along the lines of "she deserved it," "look at the way she was dressed," "look at where she was," or something similar. But these reasons are focused on the rapist himself and are shirking his responsibility. It just really got to me.

Also another thought I had last chapter was that Andrea's trip to the theater seemed sensationalized. I have never seen Deep Throat or anything, but the way she described it seems hyperbolic. I learned from the book that it was the first pornographic film, and I guess it was in the 70's. But it seems like the first ever released porno wouldn't feature such grotesque acts as shoving broken glass into a woman's vagina. I would think that the culture shock of introducing the concept of public pornography would be so much as to preclude such insane content in the film. This makes me wonder whether Andrea's description of the film is accurate or some hyperbolic metaphor. It may be, or it may not. Or I suppose I could have simply misinterpreted her message.
