The discussion of "is rape culture inescapable?" sparked a thought in
my mind: does the culture that we grow up in determine the type of
sexual experiences we will have throughout life? Or do we as people,
through our individual development, determine them with no outside
influence from culture?
It's interesting to think about. The culture of the United States these
days is so much more sexually involved than 50 years ago. Does the fact
that we're promoting the ability to openly discuss sex (through music,
magazines, slang, hemlines) therefore increase the chances that we will
all eventually have SOME form of negative sexual experience?
