Desire vs. Abuse

I was slightly bothered by the idea that one could link sexual desire
to rape after having experienced sexual abuse for so many years. At the
same time, however, I look back at my background in taking psychology.
It's human nature to find ways of coping with unimaginably horrible
situations. I don't think Andrea would have the strength as a person to
take action against abuse through her words if she could not find
something to enjoy in her encounters (as horrible and disgusting as that
actually sounds). With that said, I think the use of the juxtaposition
of abuse and desire in the end of chapter 5 is an extremely literal
example.
